Today, our tumbleweed rover mascot, named Tim Tumbleweed in our 2024 Tumblemeet, took a fun little movie road trip for this year’s Halloween! He got to dive into three spooky classics: Beetlejuice, The Shining , and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Tim found the atmospheres chilling, the scenes spine-tingling, and it was all perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit!

💨 And we’re rolling, rolling, rolling down Jezero Crater... 🎸
In this simulation, you can see the Tumbleweed rover moving down a shallow slope on Mars’ Jezero Crater.
Our Location and Attitude Determination (LAD) team uses Unity to create incredibly cool simulations of our rovers moving on the Red Planet.
The terrain was modeled using Digital Terrain Map with high-resolution elevation data, and overlaid with its corresponding Martian colour map.
Our LADs’ work is critical to ensure we know where our rovers are on Mars and the datasets gathered are mapped precisely to the Martian surface.
